Coming soon, to a bankruptcy court near you—new fees.
Starting June 1, it will cost plaintiffs $350 to file a lawsuit in bankruptcy court, a $57 increase from the prior $293 adversary filing fee, the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts announced this week.
It’ll also cost more to file for Chapter 9 (municipal), Chapter 11 (restructuring) and Chapter 15 (cross-border) protection. Instead of imposing a $46 administrative fee on filings under all chapters of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code, Chapter 9, 11 and 15 filings will carry an administrative fee of $550, while the administrative fees for Chapters 7, 12 and 13 (liquidation, family farmer and consumer chapters) will increase to $75.
To file a Chapter 11 case, a debtor must pay $1,167 in addition to the administrative fee. The filing fee was increased from $1,000 in November 2012.
The Judicial Conference of the United States, in charge of administering federal courts, approved the fee increases in March.
